The inaugural Mississippi Cannabis Festival Southern Bud Bowl, is a new regional competition for the best hemp-derived products in Southern states. Through the Bud Bowl’s judging, and awards ceremony, we hope to accomplish three goals:

★ Celebrate the Southern cannabis industry

★ Educate the community about cannabis consumer safety and best growing practices

★ Prepare cannabis enthusiasts and patients with information to advocate for further decriminalization of cannabis, leading to full adult use in our region.

Before entering, please note the following:

  • All contestants must complete all sections of the entry form, by doing so you are attesting that you have read, understand, and will abide by the Southern Bud Bowl Official Rules & Entry Guidelines during the entire Bud Bowl competition. Read the full waiver here.

  • All contestants and judges must provide a valid, non-expired, government issued photo ID that shows they are at least 21 years of age and a resident of Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.

  • at the time of submitting the entry form or purchasing kits.

  • Yawl be Kind, this is our 1st time, and we will self-correct along the way to make this a sustaining annual event where our cannabis industry participants are eager to participate. Mississippi Cannabis Festival wants to foster a positive community environment. Please be respectful towards our staff. Unprofessional or harmful behavior will result in immediate disqualification.

  • Each individual entry requires a separate registration and fee.

How It Works

  • Due to state and federal laws, this contest is open to products derived from hemp. Someday, we hope to welcome submissions of marijuana derived products.

  • To allow for adequate judging time, all submission entries must be received by Cannabis Festival Mississippi before Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 5pm.

  • To secure your entry, complete the Mississippi Cannabis Festival Bud Bowl Entry Form.

  • After submission, a Bud Bowl Coordinator will review your registration and if accepted, you will be sent final instructions including payment remittance and how to submit your products for entry.

Submitting Products

  • Hemp cultivators, processors and brands submit their products into the competition, which are then packaged by Mississippi Cannabis Festival Committee Team Members into assorted Judge Kits. Only 30 Kits will be assembled.

  • Send products to Mississippi Cannabis Festival | Attention: Southern Bud Bowl 1070 Irish Hill Drive Biloxi, MS 39539

    Please use signature required delivery to protect both you, the contestant, and Mississippi Cannabis Festival. It also serves as proof of delivery for contest participation.

  • These Judge Kits are then packaged and shipped for consumers to test and judge each product inside the kit.

Product Requirements

Cultivation Verification:

  • For the safety of consumers and to promote best growing practices, all contestants are required to adhere to the Official Rules & Guidelines, some of which include:

    • Avoiding all pesticides and plant growth regulators that are prohibited from competition.

    • Submitting Certificate of Analysis from Testing Labs before products are advanced to the Judges for tasting and experience analysis.

  • Contestants must remit 30 Samples of each product being entered when available no later than Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 5pm.

  • We recommend all Flower entries be vacuumed sealed in an airtight container and submitted starting February 12, 2024 to preserve freshness. The total sample entry must weigh 30 grams, and 1 gram will go into each of the Judge Kits.

  • Flower, Pre-roll, Concentrates, Extracts, Edible Gummies, and Edibles Non-Gummies, Topicals (Topical lotions, Salves, Oils, and Balms), Sublinguals, Tinctures and Beverages.

Please Note: Storage containers or any sample entries are not returned. Failure to adhere to ALL requirements may result in being disqualified from competition.

Entry Fee

  • The entry fee for the Bud Bowl is $60.00, which includes your ticket to attend Cannabis Festival Mississippi.

  • The entry fee covers some of the costs listed below:

    • General Admission Pass for Cannabis Festival Mississippi for 1, a $10 value.

    • Administrative support expenses, judging expenses, and packaging of products for distribution, etc., a $50 value.

Judging & Awards

Be A Judge

Judging Kits will be released on April 1, 2024 - and scores are due by April 15, 2024. You can purchase your kit starting March 25, 2024.

Within each Kit, you will receive a Judge & Access Card which provides an access code and link to log onto the Mississippi Cannabis Festival Judging Portal. If you receive products that you will not be able to judge, we kindly ask you to make your best effort to find a friend who can complete the judging for you under your email. 

Kit Cost - $50

Kit Contents – may include but isn’t limited to Flower, Pre-roll, Concentrates & Extracts, Edible, Gummies, and Edibles Non-Gummies, Topicals (Topical lotions, Salves, Oils, and Balms) Sublinguals, Tinctures, and Beverages.

Note: We anticipate 50+ different products in the competition, spread across multiple different types of kits.

Judging criteria

The Best in the South will be judged by those procuring the Judge Kits. The Judging Criteria and Points are as follows (a total of 100 Points in total can be earned per product):

★ Product Name - 5 pts

★ Product Appearance - 5 pts

★ Product Labeling - 10 pts

★ Overall Appearance - 10 pts

★ Aroma - 10 pts

★ Flavor/Taste - 10 pts

★ Time elapse from use to feeling of effects - 20 pts

★ Experience - 30 pts

Awards

Great hemp derived products can be cultivated and created anywhere by the highly skilled. All entries will be scored by judges to determine the Southern Bud Bowl Champion.

  • The Mississippi Cannabis Festival Southern Bud Bowl is a regional competition for the best hemp-derived products in Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. These Judge’s kits are then distributed across the States for consumers to test and judge each product inside their kit. The kits have a minimum cost paid by the judge to cover shipping, handling and baseline expenses.

  • Hemp-derived products are products that come from the Hemp plant. These products may include high levels of CBD, CBG, CBN and other non-psychoactive compounds that contain therapeutic properties, as well as low levels of THC. All products are under .3% Delta-9 THC and are federally legal for possession and consumption as stated in the 2018 Farm Bill. With new products coming into the market, legal psychoactive cannabinoids such as Delta 8, Delta 9, Delta 10, HHC, THC-O and more are all federally legal compounds that may be found in the Legal Psychoactive Judge Kits.

    All Certificates of Analysis showing CBD, THC and other cannabinoids and compounds in each product are available on the Mississippi Cannabis Festival Bud Bowl homepage.   • The Mississippi Cannabis Festival Committee accepts products from brands from February 1st - March 27th. 

    Judge Kits become available to the public for ordering on April 1, 2024, at www.cannabisfestivalms.com.

    Judge Kits will be shipped to a valid US address only. There is no pickup option.

    Judges will have until April 15, 2024, to complete judging for all products in their Kits.

  • (30) Judge Kits will be sold online first come first served. Anyone who is interested in becoming a judge may do so by ordering starting on March 20th. If you purchase a Judge Kit, you MUST test and submit scores and comments for all products. If you receive products you cannot consume or judge yourself, please find a friend who can help you complete the judging.   • Bud Bowl kits will be assortments of Hemp-derived products from various brands, all contained inside of a Mississippi Cannabis Festival Southern Bud Bowl box.

    We anticipate 50+ different products in the competition, spread across multiple different types of kits.

  • Each Southern Bud Bowl Judge Kit comes with a Judge’s QR Code which gives you a link to the Southern Bud Bowl Judge Portal and the access code for the specific Judge Kit type you have. Judges will access the Judge Portal to find a list of products within their kit and can choose the product they are testing, then submit their scores and feedback based on the portal’s questions and criteria. Please leave detailed comments in the comments section and include a description of your entire experience with the product.

  • Judge Kit purchases are limited to 1 kit type per person. This helps us ensure that all products are judged properly.
